The September Crime of the Month is Unlawfully Harvested Elk. On September 5, at approximately 6 p.m., Melfort conservation officers discovered a spike bull and cow elk on private land about 30 kilometers southwest of Melfort, between Meskanaw and Ethelton. The elk had been dragged behind a patch of bush in an apparent attempt to avoid detection. There was no active elk season in the area, and officers believe the animals were killed earlier that day or the day before.
